They picked a hell of a time to commit to Rocket. It had, of course, been intentional. War promised catastrophe, and mass environmental destruction was the most likely path to summoning nature's giants, the protectors she was certain were necessary to save her ancestral home. The choice before her about two deities to fight was one that filled her with a sickly excitement. These were either servants of the Earth Mother or strong pokemon elevated to god status because of their strength. [break][break]

In either circumstance, fighting them was a test of her strength and loyalty. [break][break]

Paired with Hitoshi, she looked to him to assess how he was feeling about things. "Most of my pokemon fly, so it might be disadvantageous to fight a stronger flier. I think Wo-Chien might make for a better opponent." Not that ice attacks promised any kind of success against her team, but she hoped their collective agility would help.

Underboss Fiorelli appears indifferent to your choice, but steps forward all the same. Within moments she releases Wo-Chien onto the battlefield. [break][break]

Vines and leaves cascade from its snail-like shell, which gleams with a mysterious, earthy luster. Its ochre eyes convey a sinister intelligence as it watches both you and your Pokémon. After taking stock of its opponent, Wo-Chien begins the battle — not with a bombastic assault, but by opening its slime-coated mouth to release POISON GAS onto the field. [break][break]

He grinned at Hitoshi. "Nice, so we'll have a fighting chance." He was only teasing, but he looked forward to seeing the legendary beast. It wasn't a creature they were very familiar with, but if legendary pokemon acted out the will of Earth Mother, it was important to see what they did. [break][break]

Wo-Chien was smaller than they'd thought it'd be. But they also hadn't expected poison gas, so maybe expectations weren't doing him any favors. He sent Archen after the creature, flying above the gas and dropping down to use u-turn, swapping with Oricorio on the field. The quick transition of their pokemon was intended to keep the beast from predicting their moves. If there was space on the field to launch the attack without striking Hitoshi's pokemon, Oricorio would follow up with hurricane to tie up the poisonous gas and blow Wo-Chien away.

“Seriously? This’s what yer bringin’?” Some other men in Rocket might say the words with condescension, but not the dog. Having been in the New Kid’s shoes, he remembers well the terror that battling gods can rouse in his heart. There is some ingenuity in the tricks his partner deploys, that he can’t deny, but these Pokemon need to be more seasoned.[break][break]
“Oi! Get out here!” He shouts as he throws out a pokeball. Out comes an Arcanine, though a most unusual one. It is said, in ancient times, that the beasts served as guardians around temples. This one looks the part, partially made of stone and grinning like he’s on top of the world.[break][break]
“Blow up that gas. See how the New Kid’s got a hurricane goin’? It’ll blow up right on top of ‘em.” His Arcanine, an obedient beast, nods before turning and opening his maw. The flamethrower spews out across the field, over the gas billowing in the wind. An explosion rocks the field…

Though the toxic miasma proves to be an unavoidable hindrance, your offensive approach shows your underlying cunning: to finish this swiftly before the poison can completely overtake your Pokémon. [break][break]

Unfortunately for you, Wo-Chien is quick to protect itself. It erects a SPIKY SHIELD of sorts, with wooden stakes suddenly jutting out from its shell and even the surrounding ground to act as a barrier against any oncoming attack. However, a perceptive trainer might notice a fleeting moment of opportunity after Wo-Chien lowers its shield but before it can react or continue with an attack itself.

She can't keep the awe out of her voice at the Arcanine's fiery addition to the hurricane, generating blazing winds. "Woah, that's awesome..." It gives them a few ideas for how to rouse up trouble quickly. A few well-timed attacks that can join together like that and, well, she'd have a catastrophe at her hands. [break][break]

But Wo-Chien is a hard mountain to move and it creates a shield that discourages physical contact. "This thing can really hang on." She hadn't expected it to tank so many hard-hitting strikes. "Scramble its thoughts," they instruct. Oricorio uses teeter dance to confuse the ruinous pokemon and widen the opening for a strike.

As his partner takes the lead in their dance once more, the dog wonders what happens when the mind of a god is scrambled. He wonders if it can even be scrambled. Such question, once beyond his purview, bears further contemplation. He made Tempest Quinn a promise once, that they would show the gods their limits. Even minds have limits.[break][break]
The notion makes him quiet, and he himself appears caught in the dance. His Arcanine barks, rousing him to pay attention to the matter at hand. They’re battling something, and it does not behoove man nor dog nor any hybrid thereof to fall into his own reverie.[break][break]
“Interesting trick, New Kid.” The dog says, noticing a lapse in the great ruinous Snail’s defense. Were it not for his general’s training, he would have never seen it amidst all the other movement going on around them in the hurricane of pre-war training. “Gives me an idea.”[break][break]
He points like a shogun commanding his forces to move out and take to the field. His big Arcanine sees where he points and understands at once. They must act quick.[break][break]
“Flare Blitz.” His Arcanine builds up speed, speed, speed. He turns into a comet, and he strikes the weak point. They will not defeat this god here, he thinks, when he sees how hastily it recovers, how even this sterile training field grows thick with rot, but that too is fine.[break][break]

Before you leave, she also suggests that you seek out bryan delarosa for added combat instruction. Beast Delarosa is known to be quite merciless on the battlefield, after all.

The flare blitz is an excellent move. It's heat wraps around Clover like a warm hug. It reminds him of home, of Fallarbor, of the tucked corner of a volcano. He cheers as the Arcanine moves quickly and spreads flame around the ruinous beast. "Nice one!" But the battle is far from over. They will continue to battle until it is called. [break][break]

Clover holds his passed out Oricorio in his cupped hands, his tired Archen recovering in his pokeball. "That was tough," they said, petting a finger against Oricorio's feathers. "I'm glad we weren't fighting for real. I've gotta practice and get some pokemon that are as strong as yours." Arcanine would fit in their collection... so long as it didn't feel tempted to chase their bird pokemon.

“See? We’ll see if we can find ya one to call yer own. Some of ‘em make their homes in the wild, and those’re a l’il harder to train. Anyway, we’ll train more later. I gotta run soon. My shift at the casino is startin’.” And nothing will save him from sharp looks if he shows up late on a night when an event is going on. With a wave, the dog runs off.
